We continue where we left off, finishing round 2 of combat. Sorcha takes a swing at the Owl Aarakocra (OA) who looks a little surprised that someone swung at her.

  • OA - “If we stop fighting for a minute we can chat.”
  • Sorcha - “Why are you making these babies?”
  • OA - “ Oni and I met, became inseparable. Got married but not officially married. We.ve lived in the forest for years. Got tired of Verul and her rules so they decided the need to create a fierce army made up of the fiercest people to stop her. Oni had an idea to use magic to create our army. All they needed was a bear who could impregnate the egg. Don’t know where the bear came from or how it all worked, that was all hubby’s doing. And my name is D’Kanes.”

Tolvin uses two more of his tricks and Azi casts hold person on Oni who is paralyzed again. D’Kane calls for her reinforcement, more of her “children arrive”.

We continue with 3 more rounds of combat. Highlights: Vistra brings a water elemental, Tolvin kills D’Kanes (children not happy). Amriel kills Oni (children really not happy at this point). We kill the rest of the present Owl Bears then lots and I mean lots more show up. RETREAT RETREAT.

We follow the road deeper into the forest. We travel until we can’t hear the Owlbears anymore. We find a clearing and make camp again. (Long Rest and we level up)

In the morning we wake feeling more powerful and more magical. Tolvin is now brassy and scaly which looks to be permanent but on the plus side his beard didn’t grow over night. Nalagon looks really confused (she seems to have this look a lot around us). We set out for the day on the magic carpet with Tolvin steering. The road is a little hard to follow as it snowed the night before. We’re not in any hurry, we’re just sitting back on a relaxing road through the forest. It starts snowing again at midday making it pretty hard to see but we keep going as best as we can. Nalagon thinks we're on the right path but is not 100% confident. There’s approximately 8in of snow on the ground and no plow has come through yet (typical government operation).

We come to a break in the trees. There is a path to the north and one to the east. Nalagon finally admits we are lost but she thinks we should go north, so we go north. It’s really hard to see, there’s a lot of fog or maybe even steam blanketing the area. Then we hear a deep voice that no one understands. Then it repeats itself in common “Go Away, Master’s Tower” and a rock flies over our heads. (Why does this always happen to us). Archy flies up and sees the trees being pushed away and sees a Fire Giant coming towards us standing 20ft tall (definitely was steam).

Althena detects thoughts and only gets a few images; Mage Tower and a Fire Mage (Master). Tolvin tries to impress him with his fire abilities. He seems a little impressed and motions to his buddies in the woods to come (Thanks Tolvin). (2 fire beetles, 2 fire elementals, 2 smoke Mephits, and a partridge in a pear tree). He wants us to follow them so what do we do, we follow the creepy fire people further into the woods. The Giant says “Protect Master’s tower and Master’s FIre Mage.” Nalagon knows nothing about this tower. It's 7-8 stories tall, 20-30 feet in diameter. It's made of stone that appears to be burnt. The Giant wants us to go in. We see writing on plague about 9-10ft off the ground that’s common lettering but it doesn’t spell any words. Nalagon takes a closer look and realizes its in Draconic and translates “Tower of Colvin, Master of Fire, Only those worthy of flame may enter”. (thank god we have Tolvin). Tolvin sends a firebolt below the sign and a door appears. Tolvin opens it and enters. After he goes in and the rest of us sees that he didn’t die entering we go into and the door closes.
