Session 12 Recap
Apparently someone in the group has a Time-Turner and rewound time a few minutes.
We are back in Room 15. The room is still cleared of all baddies. Kohl enters. Some people want to attack him but cooler heads prevail and instead we question him.We ask him about why he told us the wrong time to be at the flagpole to meet the Collector. Kohl admits the plan was to set us up for the assassination of the King. Kohl admits he serves Foiliag in his mission to bring Basan back to the world. He also admits they have the Ring of Basan. Vistra starts asking questions about the summoning ceremony and Kohl seems very confused with the amount of information Vistra has and doesn’t understand how she can know all these things. (For once the Toraches’s gift has come in handy). Kohl tells us that the girl (the one being sacrificed) is something that shouldn’t be possible. Vistra knows Kohl is not around the altar during the summoning ceremony and uses this to her advantage and starts some reverse psychiatry on Kohl to make him doubt Foiliag and it works a little bit.
Room 16
Kohl leaves the room, confused, and creates a wall of fire. After the fire disappears, we go through the room Kohl went through. At the end of the long hallway there is a bookcase concealing a hidden door. This room contains a cheat which Althena is able to untrap easily. The chest contains 300 cp, 6000 sp, 1800 gp, 30 ep, Silk Gown threaded with Electrum (250 gp), Pearl Miniature (of a Tree) set with Moonstone, a potion of fire breathing, and a very large diamond, and a card for Tolvin. Everything is placed in Tolvin’s Mary Poppins bag except for the card. Tolvin opens the card and it reads “Happy Birthday, You better run”. Just then the building starts to collapse from the back to the front. We raced out of the building just in time to see the all thing collapse. (At this point there is a decision on whether or not Kohl would have set off Tolvin’s mental alarms. DM forgot they were there in the first place).
Outside of building
It's approximately 11am. We need to be at Kai's about mid-day to get ready for this party. Vistra tells the group a little more about her vision of the summoning ceremony. The girl on the altar is Elvish. Foiliag is the Dark Elf in the center with the obsidian dagger with the symbol of Basan on the hilt. We also know that this is taking part on the Spring Equinox some 39 days away.
Azi heads back to the Temple to read his books. The rest of the group heads to the collector to try to off load the treasures we found in Kohls (department store, all items returnable, even ones you didn’t get from here). The Collector doesn’t buy anything from, as it’s not up to her standards, but does give us the names of some shops to visit that may be interested in buying these items. We head to several of those shops. We sell some of the things and do a little shopping ourselves.
It's getting close to 3 o’clock in the afternoon and we head to Kai’s residence. Azi meets us there. We are greeted by the butler who introduces himself as Jenkins (very inventive with the naming). Kai enters. He tells us he has rooms available for us to change into our party outfits. He has clothes for Tolvin, Althena, and Azi. Sorcha (Starlight) and Vistra (Rafikian) are going as animals. Kai also tells us there is a chest in each room for us to put our weapons in as we can’t take them with us to the palace. We head to the rooms to change . At this point the DM forgot that Kai promised us dinner so we rewind a little, eat dinner and then go to the rooms to change. And off to the party we go. Sorcha is a tiger just like the one the late Queen had. Vistra is a Rafikian and Archimedes is now a snow owl.
The party is taking place outside the palace wall at the palace gate. There are many important people at the party. There are two merchants from town, 1 has a fairy dragon (with merchant Zorn) and a blood hawk. Baad has noticed our arrival and looks very worried that we are here. We see the King with his personal wizard, the Princess and a Priestess. THe Prince is off talking to leaders from the North. THere are several Ambassadors from the neighboring countries as well. OVer the top of the palace wall we see the top of the late Queen’s tomb.
Baab comes over and questions Kai about our presence at the party. Kai informs Baab we have information about the attempted assassination of the King and Princess. We tell Baab about Kohl but leave out the parts about Basan.
Just then the Princess sees us and is in complete shock to see Starlight (the late Queen’s tiger who’s been dead for several years). She runs over to get the Prince and they walk over to us. The Princess is in complete awe of the tiger and gives her a hug but the Prince is not impressed at all. (At the point the DM realizes that he never actually gave names to the Princess and the Prince. They now have names. Princess = Naesala and Prince = Ilvisar) Princess Naesala calls over King Anamcoil to see Starlight. The King sees “Starlight” and grins at Kai. He tells Kai he knows it's a trick about a very good trick. He also says he remembers Kai’s lady friend, Sorcha, who helped the Queen once before.
At this point the group breaks off and does their own thing at the party, but we are all in communication with each other through the Bracers. Althena goes and hangs with the musicians and they play okay music. Vistra (Rafikian) goes and hangs out in a tree drawing pictures of lion cubs on the tree. Kai talks with the Merchants (there was a side deal about bringing animals to cheer up the King). The Merchants are mad at Kai for bringing “Starlight”. Baab says he’s still untrusting of us. Kai asks Zorn about an Amulet of the Drunkard for Vistra but Zorn says he doesn’t think he has one. (A little piece of Vistra dies inside :(]
Tolvin heads over the Wizard and they chat about different spells. Tolvin asks about a spell called Ultimate Pyro Blast. Wizard says maybe Vulcios. The Priestess introduces herself (to someone) as Herma and she’s from Galarion. She says she’s here to see how things work in Rharne. (Galarion is a Matriarchal society so having a King is not known to them). Azi heads off to chat with the delegation from Galarion and the Hurkons. We learn Prince Ilvisar was in the Hurkon Lands earlier this week. They chat about the assassination atempt of the King. The Princess and “Starlight” go over to Azi and the ambassadors. Sorcha, through the Bracers, asks Azi to ask the Red Dragon born (Kivan) a question for her. Kivan says his father is Kivas (the one who murdered Sorcha’s family) but he has no knowledge of his father as he’s never been around.
Naesala and “Starlight” join Prince Ilvisar. He’s still very skeptical of the tiger and then he remembers about Sorcha. Now everyone remembers Sorcha and the jig is up. The King joins them and tells Sorcha she can change back to herself. She changes back to herself. She does and the four of them chat. Anamcoil brings up the assassination attempt and Sorcha tell him the five of us were sent there with the intent of having us framed for the murder of the King. At this point we notice Baab is gone.
Althena and the musicians start playing rock n’ roll music and gets the party really going. Sorcha had over to chat with Kivan and he apologizes for the things his father has done. For some reason at this point Tolvin decides to cast Detect Magic. Baab is now back and is glowing a little bit. (Tolvin alerts the group through the Bracers, group now on alert.) Baab is standing next to the King. Anamcoil asks him questions about the assassination attempt to which he doesn’t answer but says he thinking about what to do with those people, meaning us. Tolvin heads towards the Wizard and asks him if he has Dispel Magic; he does. A little confused, the Wizard listens to Tolvin and casts Dispel Magic on Baab. Baab is no longer Baab but instead he is now a creature called a Doppelganger (DG) and he’s the one who tried to set us up. The Royal Party and Kai (coward) head inside the Palace Gates. The Dragon Born, the King’s Guard, the Dwarf King’s guard and the Ailyia of Five surround him and prepare to fight. The group gets a few hits in before the DG runs into a tent and comes out looking like the Dwarf King’s guard. Tolvin, still detecting magic, knows which one it is and tells everyone. We fight. Rafiki knocks him unconscious and he reverts back to his normal self and is taken away to the dungeons. King Anamcoil thanks us and closes the party. (Some thanks he could have let us have a drink before closing the party). He invites us back tomorrow to chat over recent events and agrees to share information on the DG creature with us. We agree to meet tomorrow afternoon. The Royal family go to the Palace and the Wizard goes off to check on members of the royal household.
Vistra is now back as herself and the Dwarf King says he doesn’t recognize her. Vistra informs him that she left Pride Rock approximately years ago. Now he knows who she is. The King’s name is Thoradon and he is only King bc of what Vistra did to his older brother Thoradin and he thanks her for doing it. The rest of the group looks puzzled.
At this point the party disperses and everyone leaves. We are to meet the Scyer at 9am tomorrow morning at the Temple. We went back to Kai’s to gather our things and some of us headed back to the Temple.
