Session 39 Recap
Last we left off we killed a demon and the remaining gnolls ran away.
(At some point in this session we level to level 8)
Before we leave the battleground, Nalagon uses her great sword and cuts the head of the demon off and puts it in her bag. Then we head back to Eisgfion. When we arrive back to town we stop at the gate and speak with the town guard. We tell them we’ve taken care of the problem they were too incapable of doing and Nalagon throws the Demon head at their feet.
We head back to the Unicorn. Charlotte greats us. She is unharm which means Tava gets to live. Tava brings out the good stuff again (really how much of the good stuff does this man have if only the mayor can afford it). We eat, drink, and be merry. A female elf comes into the inn and walks up to Tolvin and hands him a letter saying thank you for taking this to my sister. Umm Tolvin do you want to explain this? He introduces her to the group.She is Aneirin and her sister is Arlayna. And in typical fashion of this group we have questions. When did you meet Tolvin (While he was sitting on his ass while the rest of us fought crabs). How long has it been since you last saw your sister (6-7 years). Have you met your niece Gabre (I have a niece??) Okay apparently she didn't know that. Aneirin says if Arlayna was pregnant that could explain why she left so suddenly and she may know what the package is after all. Areirin is wearing an heirloom necklace that is supposed to be worn by the youngest person in the family. She thought that was her but it’s Gabre. She hands us the necklace, says it's supposed to bring the wearer luck and leaves. We of course check the necklace for magic and there’s none.
We chill out for the rest of the evening. Sorcha sends a message to Kai. Vistra sends a message to Pride Rock updating them on what’s been going on. Nalagon wants to take a bath. Sorcha gives a toast. Nalagon and Charlotte discuss what Charlotte’s future plans are and it’s decided that Charlotte will stay in Kasimir with Nalagon.
Long Rest.
Morning: Most of us meet around the bar (Joe the drunk is there too). Nalagon and Tava are suspiciously missing. Tava finally walks out of the back looking a little run down. He also has a bandage on his left biceps and now he has another black eye. He says he had a great night. And then Nalagon comes out of the same and sees us all watching her and immediately looks horrified. Charlotte on the other hand doesn’t look too happy about this. We of course start teasing Nalagon about it (what else are friends for). Shesays yes that happened and it wasn’t that good. We eat breakfast
Tolvin says he got a message in his sleep from Kai. There are a few comments about Sorcha’s lover sending messages to Tolvin at night and not her. Tolvin relays the message
“He would have gone to Sorcha, but elves don't sleep so this spell doesn't work on them. He considered vistra, but wasn't sure she'd be sober enough to remember (Vistra is deeply offended by that comment). And since the rest of the group he thinks is part elf, you were the best bet. He got an idea of the image of the Impossible Girl from the description he got form the Scryer. He says the Scryer says this is the girl he saw Sorcha walk past, and he believes it’s the Impossible Girl, but he also got the sense that something about the image he saw was false, like there’s something hiding in plain sight. Kai says he’s going to try to show Tolvin an image of the girl. An image of a young elf girl appears, nebulous at first, but then coming into focus. She has pale skin, and two glistening golden eyes. Her hair is a platinum blonde that almost fades to white. She’s average height for an elf, with a slender build, even for an elf. Kai then says that the Scryer also showed him where Sorcha passed the girl - and a vague image appears of a spot of Eisgfion that appears to be the north part of town, outside the walls. Kai says he has limited time left on his spell, but you should have time for a couple of questions to be answered. Does the Scryer know when we past the girl? do I notice anything about her clothing? There is no specific time, just that you did pass her. It was plain clothes of a commoner (nobody special) and nothing jumped out to you about the girl - almost as if she was purposefully trying to be inconspicuous.
Tolvin sends Arlayna a message asking if the necklace could be the package and she replies sounds like and tells us to be at the same place we entered and she will send the stone after dark. So now we have a whole day to kill. What to do. Vistra suggests staying at the bar and drinking all day. Nobody else goes for that. We head to the northern part of the city looking to see if we can find the girl again.
Althena heads to market square and starts performing (thinking we can draw a crowd and be easier to find the girl). While she’s doing that the rest of the group splits up and keeps an eye out. Sorcha, Vistra, and Azi watch the entrances while Archimedes is flying around. Nothing is jumping out at us. Tolvin is flying around on the carpet looking for the spot. Tolvin sees a spot that looks vaguely familiar from the dream. We take this show on the road and stop at another location. Finally Tolvin decides to share the girl's description with the group and it is not the same girl the Vistra saw in her vision (two years ago). Tolvin continues to fly on the carpet and cast detect magic but nothing pops up in the crowd or in the buildings. Scorch turns into a bird to help do some recon.
All the people in the crowds are wearing hoods so we can’t see their faces. Need to get them to take them off or look up. Althena uses her levitating spell and sends Charlotte up in the air. This gets people to look up. Tolvin again casts detect magic and this time he gets a hit. Someone is using illusion magic. He tells the group it's a female elf but not a small one. Sorcha spots the woman and does a fly by. The woman is not slender, brown eyed, not pale skin. (Could this be Foliage) The rest of the group tightens the net around the person. Althena brings Charlotte down right in front of the mysterious person. This person now realizes a lot of people are now looking at her and pulls her hood up and backs away heading west down the road. Sorcha follows by air.
We noticed that the cloak she is wearing has a clasp on it. We decide to have Althena walk up to her and detect her thoughts. Her surface thoughts; “you don’t see that every day”, “I wish the cloak hood hadn't fallen”, and “what to make for dinner”. She turns the corner and Althena can only see the cloak and her spells cut out early. The person looks over her shoulder and Althena hears, “is the bard following me? The cloak is acting as a shield for the person and Althena can only hear her thoughts if she can see her face. Tolvin casts invisibility on the carpet and himself and follows this person. The rest of us follow on foot.
She heads into a house and Azi (who now has an invisibility spell on him) follows in right behind her. She takes off the cloak and she doesn’t match the description given. There is a lot of stuff in this house for one person. Azi looks at the cloak and the cloak rack. It's a heavy duty rack, not typical at all. The cloak looks like a regular cloak but is heavier than it should be. Problem: we need to get Azi out without him being noticed. Vistra to the rescue. Vistra goes to the front door and bangs on it asking like a drunk. The person opens the front door as Azi sneaks out the back.
It’s getting late and we need to get to the forest. We all convene together to talk. Nalagon wants to know what the hell was just going on. We need to wrap up business with Verul. Plan: go to Verul, get Dilius back, ask about places in the forest one could have a sacrifice, and see if she’ll send us back to Eisgfion so we can deal with this click. (Not like we’re asking a lot at all).
We start to head to the forest. We suggest to Charlotte she should maybe stay at the Inn with Tava. (In one ear out the other) She’s coming with us.
We arrive at the spot. Not long after dark the driad appears and the stone starts to glow. He says “Mother will be waiting on the other.” We end up at the court of Verul. Arsel says he is indebted to us for bringing him is murderous lover (he left out a few of those words and we decide not to tell her her mom’s arrive). We are thanked for taking the package to the lizard folk and we give Arlayna the necklace and letter from her sister.
We hear Verul coming in for a landing. She says she’s surprised to see us.
