Session 02 Recap

Plot: Fight bad guys, release prisoners, find the Signet Ring, and Dark Magic.

Full Synopsis:

With the parties’ commotion in the great hall, they were instantly alerted to bad guys in the basement - both from a goblin head poking up the stairwell and the cries of help from Solana and Theranys below. The party rushed down and battled a Half-Ogre, a hobgoblin, a bugbear, and a few goblins - and then a carrion crawler that popped out of the trash pile. The party released the prisoners, and with their help took down the bad guys. With the threat eliminated, they decided to look for the ring - not immediately seeing it anywhere obvious. Azriphale cast detect magic, and sensed power magic - behind a wall. After investigation and checking the cells, the party figured out that closing only the prime numbered doors opened the hidden wall. Inside the secret room was 700 GP - which you divided evenly among you - the Signet ring Stormraven sent you for, another ring that was absolutely screaming with necromantic energy, several magical tomes and scrolls, and one book of levitation that opened a secret door to the well behind the wall.

The party departed the keep and headed back to Kazimir. Along the way, Solana and Theranys explained that Stormraven hired them and two others for the same mission - however the monster party hadn’t been split - everything the party faced along the way was in the Keep’s dungeon, and they were quickly knocked out. From what they gathered as they healed in their cells, the Half-Ogre intended to keep them alive and try to ransom them off - except for Dileas, the Dragonborn, who they sent off to someone named “Verul” to “pay off a debt.” The halfling Uxoria Nailo was ransomed off to her family. Solana and Theranys waited nearly 4 weeks for the Party to arrive.

Once back in Kazimir, the party encountered Amanda and Nalagon in the Inn - when Nalagon saw Solana and Theranys come in, she immediately asked what happened to Dileas - and when she heard the name Verul she looked downtrodden and said she had to go off to plan. Amanda explained that yes, she knew about the first party, but not what happened to them. Stormraven overpaid her not to mention that mission to the Party.

Stormraven enters the Inn and immediately asks about the ring. The party says they have it, and try to get a better deal for their troubles, and Stormraven considers it. When the party mentions Cyrus’ Diary, he says he’ll pay them 400 GP total each for the ring and the diary. The Party, seemingly skeptical of Stormraven’s motives (and identity, truthfulness, smugness, and seemingly everything else about him (NB: DM editorial)) ask to meet his father, Tiberius. Stormraven ponders this, and agrees to these terms: He’s taking the Signet ring now. He’ll put the party up at the Armored Goat for the night for their recuperation from the journey. The party will go to Stormraven manor tomorrow at 13:00 to meet Tiberius, and then hopefully hand over Cyrus’ journal as well. For all that, he’s upped the payment to 400 total (plus the 50 upfront) - for all seven of you.

With that, Stormraven goes off into the night, and the party stays at the inn to rest. The party all reached level 3 as well.
